Bridges to the Future

Too often it is stated that students who've been incarcerated have few to no opportunities to improve their lives. To combat statements like these, artworxLA's Creative  Pathways Manager Adenike Harris joined Loyola Marymount University's four-day conference centered on using art as a significant resource to rehabilitate students in correctional facilities. This event titled Arts in Corrections: Building Bridges to the Future provided critical opportunities for professional development and support for artist and organizations that teach art classes in correctional facilities. The conference held panel discussions and workshops highlighting programs that assist incarcerated students with re-entry to their communities as well as professional development in the areas of evaluations and documentation of existing programs geared towards youth development.

Adenike shared how artworxLA is using arts as means to re-engage student who've experienced trauma and need creative services better their lives.

We thank California Lawyers for the Arts, the William James Association, and Loyola Marymount University for hosting this unique and enriching event.
