Level 2: AFTER-SCHOOL RESIDENCIES

Students who are enrolled in artworxLA’s classroom workshops and want engage in the LA arts industries and communities can join Advanced Programs, a paid high school internship opportunity. Our __ week program invites students out of the classroom to engage with professional artists and cultural partners throughout Los Angeles County.

Participating in Advanced Programs helps students prepare for life after high school by providing chances to explore different education and career paths in the arts, learning small business skills, mentorship, collaboration, and navigating the professional world confidently. Students come away with new friends, confidence in their skills, and connections for success.

Advanced Programs is comprised of two parts; residencies and Creative Pathways, and culminates in a celebratory presentation of students’ work. Residencies (immersion in a specific medium) meet once a week for art instruction at the artworxLA Headquarters or a partnering institution.

Simultaneously, students participate in Pathways, a weekly leadership program that teaches transferable creative and career skills. These workshops help students succeed in the residencies, advance to summer arts scholarship opportunities, and practice applied critical thinking and creative problem solving. During workshops students practice resume writing, meet working artists and industry professionals, tour college campuses, and more.

I wanted the opportunity to take a lot of art courses, and to be a part of that community and participate in a team -- where we all have the same intentions and grow together through creative practices.
