Fall 2019 - Level 1 Public Presentations
Congratulations, artworxLA students, on completing the fall season of classroom workshops! Through a creative lens, students at 32 school sites addressed themes of identity, combatting stigma, building community, and healing. The season culminated with public presentations of student artworks at our cultural partners: the Skirball Cultural Center, the Fowler Museum at UCLA /UCLA Art & Global Health Center, and the Vincent Price Art Museum at East Los Angeles College. In addition to presentations of student art, performances, and screenings, each event included exhibition tours, hands-on art-making activities, and more. Thank you to our students, school partners, cultural partners, and special guests for a fantastic end to the Fall 2019 season!

Students participated in a hands-on workshop involving nendo dango (also known as “earth balls” or “seed balls”), followed by guided tour of the Noah’s Ark exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center. The lovely student exhibition was a key feature for every student to enjoy their work on display.

At the Fowler, students participated in an activation with the UCLA Sex Squad, an educational performance covering comprehensive sexual health. In addition to learning about sexual heath, the Fowler Museum at UCLA hosted our students for artivist storytelling performances in the exhibition Through Positive Eyes, where they also received a guided tour. Our groups circled through the hands-on art making activities and perused everyone’s work in the student art exhibition.

Double Vision: Art at the Intersection of Identities

Our gracious hosts at the Vincent Price Art Museum (VPAM) at East Los Angeles College (Elac) gave a greeting to our students, in addition to an informational presentation regarding their Museum Studies Certificate Program. Meanwhile in the VPAM foyer, students viewed finished works from their peer schools, and saw the George Rodriguez: Double Vision exhibition. George surprised our students as a special guest and gave a heart-warming talk about his journey with photography during our public presentation.
